How to measure your foot correctly?

Would you like to know how to measure your foot correctly and choose the right size of barefoot shoes? We have prepared a detailed guide for you in which we will describe three measuring methods and test them as well.

Let's measure together for better barefoot tomorrows. :)

For proper measurement it is very important to measure your feet in an upright position with a weighted foot, never sitting or lying down. Do not use a tailor's tape measure when measuring.

First method of measurement - procedure:

To measure, you will need paper, a ruler and a thin pencil with a sharp point (do not use thick markers or pens).

  1. Stand perpendicular to the paper and ask someone to trace your foot. The pencil must always be perpendicular to the paper - make the line as accurate as possible around the whole foot. If you trace the foot yourself, you may end up with a line that is wider in certain places than it actually is.
  2. When you have the template ready, mark:
a.) Two main points - the first point is in the middle at the end of the heel (make a small mark), and the second point is at the end and in the middle of the longest toe on the foot. Connect these two points with a line and measure it - the result is the actual length of your foot (red line on the picture).
b.) Foot axis - a straight line that goes exactly through the middle of the foot (blue line on the picture).
  3. You can measure the width of your foot by marking a perpendicular line on the foot axis at the widest part of your foot on your sketch, and then marking two additional points. Both points should be located in the area of the toe joints, where the foot is widest. Connect both points with a line and measure its length - that is the width of your foot (green line on the picture).
  4. Connect the two points with a line and measure its length - this is the width of your foot.
  5. Remember to measure each foot separately, as the difference between the feet can be a few millimetres to half a centimetre.

Choose your shoe size according to the longer/width of your foot.

The second method of measurement - the procedure:

To measure, you will need a wall, paper, a book or a sturdy notebook, a pencil, and a ruler. Place the paper against the wall and tape it to the floor. Repeat the same process as measuring with a box. This method of measurement is very accurate.

  1. Stand on the paper against the wall so that your heel touches it. Trace the outline of your entire foot or just indicate two main points at the widest part of your foot. Connect these points with a line - this will be the width of your foot (green line, see image). Connect these points with a line - the result is the width of your foot.
  2. Place the book/notebook against the longest toe of your foot and draw a line. Measure the length in the same way as in the first method. Mark a point in the middle of your heel and another in the middle of your longest toe. Connect these points with a line. Measure the length of the line with a ruler, and you will have the length of your foot (red line, see image).
  3. Repeat the measurement on the other foot.

Third measurement method - procedure:

This foot measurement method is used with a +12 gauge.

  1. Place the gauge on the ground.
  2. Stand so that the back of the gauge is resting on the heel of your foot.
  3. Then slide the gauge until the tongue touches the longest toe.
  4. At the point of contact with the longest toe, read off the length of your foot from the gauge. Be sure to subtract the extra 12 mm that the gauge has from this number. This will give you the actual length of your feet.
  5. Repeat the measurement on both feet.

Which method is the best?

We have tested all three measurement methods and here are our results:

We found some differences in the values when contouring the foot. For the right foot it was 2 mm and for the left foot up to 0.5 cm. Therefore, the accuracy of this method of measuring the foot is questionable.

When measuring with a wall and a +12 gauge, we obtained the same values for both feet in both cases. These methods are therefore very accurate and are highly recommended.

Once you have measured your feet, you can verify the accuracy of your measurements and try comfortable and stylish barefoot shoes from our collection.
