How to measure your foot correctly?
Would you like to know how to measure your foot correctly and choose the right size of barefoot shoes? We have prepared a detailed guide for you in which we will describe three measuring methods and test them as well.

Let's measure together for a better barefoot tomorrow.
For complete accuracy, it’s essential to measure your feet while standing upright with your full weight on them, never while sitting or lying down. Additionally, avoid using a measuring tape; instead, use a ruler for precise measurements.
First Measurement Method - Procedure
To measure your foot, you will need a piece of paper, a ruler and a thin pencil with a sharp tip (avoid using thick markers or pens).
- Stand perpendicular to the paper and ask someone to trace your foot. Ensure that the pencil remains perpendicular to the paper all the time to create the most precise outline possible around your entire foot. If you trace your foot yourself, you may end up with a wider line in some areas than your actual foot.
- When you’ve finished tracing your foot, mark the following:
a) Two Main Points - the first point is in the middle at the end of the heel (make a small mark), and the second point is at the tip of the longest toe, also centered. Connect these two points by a line (red line see fig.) and measure it - this result represents the actual length of your foot.
b) Foot Axis - Draw a straight line that runs exactly through the center of the foot (blue line see fig.) . - To measure the width of your foot, draw a line perpendicular to the foot axis at the widest point of your tracing. Mark two additional points in the area of the toe joints, where your foot is widest (green line see fig.). Connect these two points with a line and measure its length; this measurement represents the width of your foot.
- Remember to measure each foot separately, as there can be a difference of a few millimeters up to half a centimeter between them.
- Select the shoe size based on your longer or wider foot.
Second measurement method - procedure:
All you need is a wall, paper, a book or a sturdy notebook, a pencil, and a ruler. Place the paper against the wall and secure it to the ground using adhesive tape. Follow the same procedure as when measuring with the paper in method no.1.This method of measurement is highly accurate.
- Stand on the paper against the wall so that your heel touches it. Outline your entire foot or simply mark the two main points at the widest part of your foot. Connect these points with a line—this will give you the width of your foot (green line see fig.).
- Place the book or notebook against the longest toe of your foot and draw a line. Mark a point at the middle of your heel and another at the middle of your longest toe. Connect these points with a line. Then, measure the length of this line with a ruler, this measurement will give you the length of your foot (red line see fig.).
- Repeat the measurement on the other foot as well.
Third measurement method - procedure:
This method of measuring the foot utilizes a +12 shoe sizer.
- Place the shoe sizer on the ground.
- Stand so that the back of the sizer is resting against your heel.
- Then move the sizer until the tab touches the longest toe.
- At the point of contact with your longest toe, read the length of your foot from the gauge and subtract 12 mm from the measurement to get the true length of your foot.
- Repeat the measurement on both feet.
Which method is the most accurate?
We tested all three measurement methods and here are our results:
- Tracing the Foot: We found some variances in the measurements—2 mm for the right foot and up to 0.5 cm for the left foot. Therefore, the accuracy of this method is questionable.
- Measuring with a Wall and a +12 Shoe Sizer: We obtained consistent values for both feet using both methods. Thus, these methods are very accurate and highly recommended.
