How to choose the right size?
-
You can find the size chart, along with the recommended oversize for each particular model, directly on the product page. The size chart can be accessed by clicking on the "Size chart" link located just above the size selection menu on each product page.
-
The measurements provided in the size chart refer to the inner length and inner width of each shoe model, representing the actual space inside the shoe. The size chart also includes the recommended oversize for each specific model.
To find the best possible fit, please add the recommended oversize to your foot measurements and then look for the closest match in the size chart.
In the upper right corner of the size chart, you can easily switch the displayed units from centimeters (cm) to inches (inch).
-
You can easily read the proper and reliable method for measuring your foot in our article How to Measure Your Foot Correctly, where you will find all the necessary steps and tips.
-
Toe allowance, also called “oversize,” is the extra space you leave between your longest toe and the end of the shoe to ensure comfort and natural movement. For SHAPEN shoes, the recommended toe allowance varies by model - you can find the specific oversize at the bottom of each size chart.
For enclosed shoes (such as winter shoes and trainers), the recommended toe allowance is 8 to 12 mm.
For sandals, a generally smaller oversize of 3 to 5 mm is recommended.
For open sandals, the oversize is usually between 5 to 10 mm.
Choosing the right toe allowance helps prevent discomfort and optimizes the fit.
-
If you find yourself between two sizes, it’s usually best to choose the larger size for more comfort and to provide some toe allowance (oversize). Any extra space can be adjusted using insoles.
However, if you prefer a snugger fit, you may opt for the smaller size, depending on your personal preference for extra room in your shoes. For more personalized advice, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected].

We will be happy to advise you! Please send us a message at [email protected]. Don’t forget to include your foot measurements or a photo of your foot measurement, along with the name of the SHAPEN model you are interested in.
-
SHAPEN barefoot shoes are the ideal choice especially for the "Egyptian" foot type, characterized by a dominant big toe as the longest digit. Thanks to their anatomical shape, they provide the big toe with ample space without any unwanted pressure.
Shoe care
-
Care depends on the material of the upper.
Smooth leather:
Simply wipe your shoes with a damp cloth, then allow them to dry. Once dry, apply a suitable leather balm or beeswax. Regular polishing helps prevent cracking, maintains the surface, and preserves the leather’s original quality.
Nubuck or suede (velour):
These materials require cleaning only when dry - never clean them with water as you would with smooth leather. Use special brushes or abrasive sponges designed for suede or nubuck. These shoes also need special care products to restore their color and refresh the material.
For more detailed care tips, check out our article: How to care for barefoot shoes properly?

Want your SHAPEN shoes to last longer? Give them the care they deserve! Proper use and maintenance not only keep your shoes in great condition but also significantly extend their lifespan. Always use the recommended care products (insert link to care products) - improper maintenance can reduce both performance and durability. Here are a few simple tips to help you care for your shoes properly:
1. Use a shoehorn when putting on closed-heel shoes to protect the heel structure.
2. Always untie or unfasten your shoes when putting them on or taking them off - avoid pulling them off while still tied.
3. Secure your feet properly with laces, straps, or fasteners. Loose-fitting shoes can cause excessive wear to the lining, insole, or heel.
4. Rotate your footwear - avoid wearing the same pair every day, especially in wet conditions.
5. Allow shoes to dry thoroughly after each wear. Damp interiors can damage materials and shorten their lifespan.
6. Avoid soaking your shoes - excessive moisture can harm both the material and the construction.
7. Use water-repellent sprays and care products appropriate for the shoe’s material before the first wear.
8. Reapply protective spray regularly to help shield your shoes from water, dirt, and dust.
Understand that the warranty period does not equal the shoe's lifespan - with proper care, your SHAPEN shoes can last well beyond the warranty. With just a little attention, your SHAPENs can serve you beautifully for many seasons to come. -
In our production, we use carefully selected materials such as leather, nubuck, suede, and velvet. For those seeking alternatives, we also offer models made from vegan leather, breathable knit, and cotton, choosing each material with a focus on maximum flexibility and durability. Read more in our article: What materials do we use?
-
Store leather shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and use shoe trees to maintain their shape. Keep them in breathable bags or boxes to prevent moisture buildup.
-
The key to protecting leather shoes is the regular application of a waterproofing spray or cream, which creates a barrier that repels water and prevents moisture from soaking in. Before applying any product, ensure the shoes are completely clean and dry so the treatment can properly bond to the surface. For smooth leather, wax-based conditioners are ideal for deep protection, while suede and nubuck require specialized waterproof sprays to maintain their texture and breathability.
-
The choice of insoles depends on your needs. Our bamboo insoles are ideal for summer due to their excellent moisture absorption, while our leather variants stand out for their high durability and long life during daily wear. For cold days, we offer winter insoles with wool and a thermal layer to insulate feet from the frost, and our 3 mm insoles help beginners precisely reduce the shoe's interior space for a perfect fit. View our full range of shoe insoles.
-
Use an antiperspirant on your feet to reduce sweating and limit odor buildup inside the shoes. Apply Collonil Colour Stop Spray inside your shoes to prevent color transfer and protect the lining. These products help keep the interior drier, cleaner, and more hygienic when wearing shoes without socks.
-
The key to preventing blisters when wearing barefoot shoes sockless is minimizing friction and keeping your feet dry, for instance, by using an antibacterial deodorant. You can preventatively protect pressure points on your heels with invisible gel pads or opt for shoes made from breathable natural materials like leather, knit, or canvas. Whenever possible, barefoot invisible socks are an ideal solution, as they maintain a stylish look while providing a necessary protective barrier.
About barefoot shoes
-
Zero drop shoes are footwear where the height of the heel and the height of the forefoot are exactly the same. In traditional shoes, the heel is usually elevated higher than the toes, creating a "drop." Learn more about the benefits and features of barefoot footwear on our "What is barefoot" page.
-
Barefoot shoes help strengthen your foot muscles and promote a more natural gait by mimicking the experience of walking without shoes. They also improve balance and posture by allowing your feet to better sense the ground beneath you.
-
The transition to barefoot shoes typically takes anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on your current foot strength and activity level. It is essential to start gradually by wearing them for short periods to allow your muscles and tendons to adapt without injury.
-
Yes, especially if they are made of leather. Leather naturally softens and adapts to the shape of your feet over time, giving you a bit of extra space in both width and length. Vegan materials, however, mostly maintain their shape, so they do not loosen.
-
Yes, barefoot shoes can change your feet by allowing your toes to spread naturally, which often leads to a wider, stronger foot shape over time. They also help restore the natural arch of the foot by engaging muscles that are typically inactive in traditional footwear.
-
Barefoot shoes are often more expensive because they are produced in smaller batches using high-quality, flexible materials that must remain durable while maintaining ground feel. Additionally, the specific anatomical shape requires custom molds and ethical manufacturing processes, which increases costs compared to mass-produced footwear.
-
If your feet are already fully adapted and your muscles are strong enough, our barefoot shoes are designed for comfortable all-day wear without restrictions. However, we recommend that beginners increase their wearing time gradually to allow their feet to strengthen naturally and get used to the new way of moving.
-
Regrettably, we do not offer custom-made shoes at this time. All SHAPEN shoes are produced according to fixed sizing and design standards. However, we’re always happy to help you find the best-fitting model based on your foot measurements and preferences.

Yes. Barefoot shoes are ideal for children as they provide ample toe room and do not hinder the natural development of foot muscles and bones. Thanks to the thin and flexible sole, kids can better sense the ground, which significantly helps in building their balance and healthy movement coordination.
-
Yes, barefoot shoes are ideal for walking because they allow the foot to function naturally and strengthen its muscles. Thanks to the thin and flexible sole, you gain better stability and a more intense connection with the surface you walk on.
Barefoot shoes and health
-
When dealing with specific foot conditions, the right shape and level of cushioning are key to comfort. If you have flat feet, look for shoes with firm arch support, while high arches and heel spurs benefit most from models with significant shock absorption. For bunions (hallux valgus), shoes with a wide toe box and flexible materials that don't press on the joint are a must. In any case, avoid narrow fits, as they only worsen the symptoms.
-
Yes, barefoot shoes can help with bunions because their wide toe box provides toes with enough space to realign naturally and reduces painful pressure. Read more in our article: Bunions (a deviation of the big toe): How can barefoot shoes help?
-
Yes, barefoot shoes are suitable for high arches because, instead of passive support, they stimulate the foot muscles toward active engagement and natural strengthening. The absence of artificial arch support in this footwear helps restore functional stability and increases the overall flexibility of the foot.
-
Yes, barefoot shoes can help with plantar fasciitis because they strengthen foot muscles and improve natural mobility, thereby reducing excessive strain on the tendons. Thanks to the zero-drop sole, the Achilles tendon and calf muscles naturally lengthen, which relieves pressure on the inflamed heel.
-
Yes, this type of footwear acts as a natural rehabilitation for flat feet by awakening dormant muscles that are passive and weakened in conventional shoes. Instead of relying on external arch support, it leverages the foot's own strength, gradually restoring its ability to flex and maintain its proper shape. Read more about flat feet and how to prevent them in this article.
-
Yes, barefoot shoes help with proper spinal alignment because the zero-drop sole eliminates the unnatural pelvic tilt caused by traditional heels. By allowing the feet to function as a stable and strong foundation, body weight is better distributed, which relieves tension in the lower back area.
